The concept of establishment of a Medical College in the historic city of Tezpur started in the year 2005. The foundation stone was laid by Her Excellency, Smt. Prativa Devi Singh Patil, the then President of India on 21st October 2008. Construction of the College, Hospital and other ancillary facilities progressed well and Hon’ble then Chief Minister of Assam, Sri Tarun Gogoi dedicated Tezpur Medical College & Hospital to the people of Assam on the auspicious day of 30th January 2014. Strategically located in the North bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra, this Medical College Hospital will cater to the needs of people belonging to several districts of North Assam and parts of Arunachal Pradesh, with all modern facilities of health care. The Mission of this College shall be to create, uphold and develop an ideal academic environment for undergraduate and post graduate Medical education and research, to set a standard of tertiary health care with all modern facilities of investigation and treatment, and to establish other learning centers for Nursing, Pharmacy and Paramedical courses. It will also encourage free flow of ideas and exchange of information amongst various Medical Colleges of the country, and develop collaborative research work with other centers and institutions of higher learning. With adequate support from Govt. of Assam, dedication of Teachers, Staff and Students, the College is marching towards its Silver Jubilee in 2039.
